While working on some music videos 2 years ago, I was heavily inspired by the painting team and art director to find a way to make tonal brushes that inverted their shape. I then dove into that rabbit-hole of manually making alphas and learning patterns.

These are some of the experiments that came out.

Hopefully you can find these helpful for getting simple tonal shapes and experiment with some different looks. Give me a shout if you give them a go. I’d love to see what you come up with.
